My generation is so thoughtful and politically aware -_-

^^^I sense the sarcasm in your post and that makes me wonder why our generation criticizes itself for not being aware, then brings itself down once awareness starts taking place in numbers. Why is it that when a celebrity dies, the first picture that gets posted is of some dying children in Africa or some child soldiers with the headline “A million die and no one cries,”? Why is it that when people are actually shifting their attention to those children you claimed to care about when Whitney Houston died that you criticize the masses yet again? I’m sick of the social activist hipsters acting like they’re above everyone else regardless of the issue at stake. Our generation cannibalizes itself at any given opportunity because everyone is so concerned with not being a part of a larger crowd and no one can swallow his or her pride and admit that he or she didn’t know everything about anything before everyone else.  

“Don’t go Occupy Wall Street, you’re just doing that to ride the wave.”

“You didn’t know about Troy Davis until last week, you just want to feel involved with something.”

“Yall wanna call your senators about SOPA just because everyone on Facebook is doing it.”

“Stop being a follower.”

Yeah, stop being a follower. Stop talking about politics and real world events because they’re popular tonight, for once. Stick to talking about the Jersey Shore. Keep eating your fast food, drinking your diet coke, watching the corporate news programming, taking out student loans, and working a 9-5 in your cubicle even though you can’t pay off your tuition debts. Go back to doing that and for the love of God stop being a follower. 

Fucking cynics and hypocrites, the lot of you. Generation zzzzzz is its own worst enemy.
